The Max Planck Computing and Data Facility (MPCDF) is a competence center of the Max Planck Society. It is engaged in the development and optimization of algorithms and applications for high-performance computing as well as in the design and implementation of solutions for data-intensive projects in close collaboration with scientists of the Max Planck Institutes. The MPCDF operates Max Planck supercomputers, computer systems, a cloud platform, and data repositories for various Max Planck Institutes and maintains an up-to-date infrastructure for data management including a long-term archive as one of the largest such academic sites within Europe.

The MPCDF infrastructure comprises a wide range of data driven services. For ongoing maintenance as well as further developments and improvements, the MPCDF is searching for qualified candidates to join the data division. The chosen candidate will take a leading role in supporting researchers of the Max Planck Society in every step of the Research Data Management (RDM). The responsibilities in­clude maintenance of the data infra­structure as well as contributions to further developments.

The applicant should ideally hold a degree in an IT-related area and should be familiar with modern DevOps procedures as well as the operation of data-driven (web)services.

Required skills:

  • Good knowledge of Linux system administration
  • Programming and scripting experience (Python, Bash)
  • Creativity for problem solving under changing conditions
  • Ability to realize concrete solutions
  • Good communication skills (in English and German)

Beneficial skills:

  • Database administration (PostgreSQL)
  • GitLab and CI knowledge
  • Interest in science and research

The full-time position starts as soon as possible and is initially limited for a period of up to three years with the possibility of extending this to a permanent position. Salary will be based on experience according to the German TVöD.
